First Slice of Cake Exhibition Opening!

First Slice of Cake Exhibition Opening!

Come experience the stylistic experimentation of Dan Cake, at the inception of his career! “When L/A Arts first approached me about having a show of my early work I hesitated. My early creative work went in many different directions.  I experimented with different mediums, methods and genre.” Cake describes some of his pieces as “rather dark” and “disturbing,” marking a contrast from his more current works.  This collection, Cake explains, “is part of the adventure I was on.”

volunteer banner
Art Walk Lewiston Auburn NEEDS YOU to volunteer and become a part of the movement. There are many ways to get involved! Art Walk is the summer’s premier monthly event, showcasing local talent, hosting free concerts and encouraging you to get out and join us for a walk! Volunteering is a great opportunity to give back, get involved and network with new friends!
Email [email protected] or call (207) 782-7228 and sign up today! In your email, please indicate your volunteer preference, experience level and availability.

Exhibit Creation 10AM-4PM  on Saturday June 22 and Monday June 24
Art Walk is looking for cheerful and detail oriented volunteers to assist our team in hanging artists work at various venues. Volunteers will be responsible for helping to transport art work and easels from L/A Arts to various locations and are asked to handle all work with extreme care. They must be comfortable using a hammer, level and measuring tape. Prior experience is a huge plus—the ideal candidate will be comfortable self directed.

Pre Event Set Up throughout the day on June 28th
Volunteers will be asked to assist in setting up sandwich board signs outside along the Art Walk path—many directly outside of venues. Volunteers will also be responsible for distributing maps/promotional materials to individual venue locations.

Reception Set Up: Assist Art Walk staff in set up of gallery receptions as needed.

Performance Set Up 3:30-5:00, Performance Break Down 8PM on June 28th
Additionally some Art Walk sites will host free concerts, installations and events which will require volunteer assistance in setting up stages, chairs, and other duties as necessary. Performances are typically scheduled for 6PM so set up will begin around 3:30 (depending on the number of volunteers available). During performance times, volunteers are able to take a break to enjoy Art Walk and are asked to please return, if available, to help break down.

Gallery Host 4:45-9:30PM on June 28th
We are looking for friendly and personable volunteers to represent Art Walk Lewiston Auburn in our art venues during the event.  Responsibilities include greeting patrons, supervising the venue, answering questions and acting as a contact for anyone interested in purchasing art at the event. This is a great team activity for anyone interested in volunteering with a friend, and is a fantastic way to meet folks around town.  Addditionally, Art Walk would love assistance in breaking down at the end of the night, which consists of collecting sandwich boards from various Art Walk venues.

Pay Station Operator 4:30-9:30PM on June 28th
We are looking for volunteers to facilitate payment transactions! These volunteers should feel comfortable assisting interested patrons and filling out the paperwork necessary to purchase work displayed at Art Walk Lewiston Auburn.

Glorious Garden Party Attracts Hundreds

art walk venue post photoWe would like to extend thanks to all those who submitted artwork, volunteered, and participated in our May 2013 Garden Party Art Walk! Friday, May 31 was a gorgeous sunny day here on Lisbon Street, and we had over 500 people who joined us for an evening of great art, food, and conversation. More than 30 artists showcased their work at 24 venues. Peter Alexander played a fantastic show outside in Dufresne Plaza, allowing listeners to enjoy some amazing music and sunshine. Fresh on the tails of our May Art Walk, we are looking for new art submissions to make our June Art Walk even bigger and better! Join us in June, and submit your work today!
