Lewiston, ME – Sub freezing temperatures have hit L/A again, so you know it’s about time for Ice Fest L/A to heat up! Last year, 2500 people packed in Fountain Park and the Bates Mill Atrium over the three-day weekend extravaganza. This year, with more unique and extensive sculptures, bars (rumor has it there are a couple more this year), and entertainment, this second year of Ice Fest is gearing up to be an event not to be missed. The first two nights (Friday and Saturday, February 21st – 22nd 5-9 p.m.), are 21+ events (ID required at the door) and will feature frosty beverages, creative ice sculptures, music, and food samples from a variety of local restaurants, all for just a $10 admission ticket in advance, and $15 at the door. A limited number of tickets will be sold for this illustrious event, so get yours quickly!

The final day (Sunday, February 23rd 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.) is a free family day event, so bundle up the clan and head out into the fun! Thanks to the generosity of Platz Associates, keep the kids warm inside the Bates Mill Atrium, where they can enjoy hot cocoa and other sweet treats, live music, and theater. Outside in Fountain Park, watch talented carvers erect new pieces on the spot, and keep the children moving with engaging activities and games. Get ready one and all for the second annual Ice Festival of Lewiston/Auburn! IceFest L/A is a three day extravaganza of deliciously frosty beverages served up with a twist; Five ice bars, over a dozen gorgeous ice sculptures, music and light hors d’oeuvres from a variety of local restaurants. Last year we were stunned by the the turnout, over 2500 people, thus making Icefest L/A one of the largest in the state!! We had featured 20 ice sculptures, 3 ice bars, 3 ice carving demonstrations and a 15 foot igloo. Want to share in our hometown love this time around? Pull on your best faux fur or down parka, some warm gloves and chill out with Ice Fest L/A on February 21st, 22nd and 23rd 2014!

WINTER ARTWALK 2013

Location: Lisbon Street and surrounding downtown Lewiston.

As 2013 comes to an end the Winter Art Walk is in full swing in downtown Lewiston. Lisbon St businesses will host this month’s Art Walk on December 27th from 5 – 8 pm. Participating local businesses, artists, stores and restaurants will be open and buzzing with beautiful works of art, and live music performances to help keep you warm. Come celebrate the end of the year with great art in some of your favorite local spots!

This month’s Art Walk will feature the following venues: She Doesn’t Like Guthrie’s (115 Middle St.), Lyceum Gallery (49 Lisbon St.), The Vault (84 Lisbon St.), Rainbow Bicycle (84 Lisbon St.), Bread Shack (97 Lisbon St.), Forage Market (180 Lisbon St.), Chill Yoga (2nd floor, 178 Lisbon St.), Downtown Handmade & Vintage (2nd floor, 178 Lisbon St.), Life Ideals (3rd floor, 178 Lisbon St.), Kimball Street Studio (191 Lisbon St.), Dube’s Flowers (window exhibit, 195 Lisbon St.), LA Arts Gallery (221 Lisbon St.), and New Beginnings (window exhibit, 245 Lisbon St.).

*Due to the Holiday, Lewiston Public Library will not be participating in December Art Walk

In addition to displaying artwork, many of the Winter Art Walk restaurants and businesses will offer additional Art Walk features, such as live entertainment or special promotions.

She Doesn’t Like Guthrie’s is currently hosting work from Creative Trails. Creative Trails is an innovative community support program for adults with intellectual disabilities located in several locations throughout Maine. They offer participants choices, sophisticated opportunities and integration to help support and guide them to becoming more interdependent. By realizing theory potential through experience of mind, body and spirit, each indivdual will live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. CREATE, the art program, is designed to support artists in building their skills in many different mediums. With artists visits and studio time the individuals touch upon community awareness, fine motor skills, self awareness, social skills and sensory awareness.

Guthries will also host a live musical performance by The Juke Joint Devils, at 8:00 pm the night of the Art Walk, December 27th. The Juke Joint Devils take you back to a time when small house bands played from the soul, on real instruments, could swing like crazy and anything could happen on stage. These guys play a mix of West Coast and Chicago Blues, with a bit of spice from New Orleans and elsewhere. The band features International Blues Challenge finalists Tommy O’Connell on harp and vocals and Gerry Byrne on standup base, Johnny Moran on drums and with Stefan Iris on guitar.
