Oldtime Piano and Fiddle at Oasis

Doug Protsik’s fiddle and Louise Strong’s piano playing will return to the Oasis of Music Wednesday February 14.  The music at Trinity Commons, 247 Bates Street in Lewiston, begins at 12:30.
Doug Protsik’s music has delighted Maine audiences for four decades and more, from playing piano for classic silent movies, to playing his fiddle, accordion and piano with the Pine Hill Band, Maine Country Dance Orchestra, the Ben Guillemette Ensemble and Old Grey Goose, the last of which has taken him to four continents sharing the folk music of our area with musicians and audiences far and wide.  He continues to direct Maine Fiddle Camp, a popular Summer event hosting campers from all over the state, country and world.

Louise Strong has been playing piano for dances and accompanying vocalists since her teenage years in Nova Scotia with her fiddling Grandma. With her husband Stephen they have shared a love of various folk, contra, square dancing since the 1950s.  Louise has been a full time music director in her retirement years at various communities throughout the country, as well as jamming at countless music festivals, especially Bluegrass. Now settled in Maine, she loves playing along with Doug’s fiddling in the old classic style and repertoire she grew up with.
Admission to the Oasis of Music is free, with donations accepted.  For more information call 344-3106.

The event is finished.
