Midcoast Symphony Orchestra “Cityscape, Seascape, Soundscape”

Location: Franco Center, 46 Cedar St, Lewiston, ME 04340

Date: May 18 at 7:00 p.m.

In this final series of the season the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Rohan Smith presents “Cityscape, Seascape, Soundscape.”

This performance opens with Aron Copland’s “Quiet City” featuring our own Tim Kenlan on trumpet and Billie Jo Brito on English horn. Originally composed for a failed Irwin Shaw play, it premiered as an independent work in 1941.

That piece is followed by “La Mer”, the second of Claude Debussy’s three great orchestral trilogies. This takes the form of three symphonic sketches about the sea.

The final work is an orchestra favorite, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Of note when Beethoven premiered this work it was so well received that the audience demanded an immediate encore of one of the movements.

During intermission “More with Midcoast” is featuring music by pianist Michael Bostock. Michael, a senior at Waynflete School, is the recent winner of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra’s 43rd Annual Maine High School Concerto Competition.

This concert will take place Saturday May 18 at 7:00 pm in the beautiful Franco Center in Lewiston.

Individual tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. All concert tickets are free for students ages 18 and under, or for college students with ID.
