The Maine Music Society Chorale and Orchestra will present Judas Maccabaeus by George Frederic Handel. The piece is based on the period 170-160 BCE when Judea was occupied by a dynasty of Hellenist kings who set about the destruction of the Jewish religion. The story unfolds with the solos and choruses dramatizing the fight of the Maccabees against — and their eventual victory over– the occupying kings.
