The Maine Music Society Chorale and Orchestra will present Judas Maccabaeus by George Frederic Handel. The piece is based on the period 170-160 BCE when Judea was occupied by a dynasty of Hellenist kings who set about the destruction of the Jewish religion. The story unfolds with the solos and choruses dramatizing the fight of the Maccabees against — and their eventual victory over– the occupying kings. This stunning music includes famous choruses, most notably the “Hallelujah, Amen”. You’re sure to be wowed by the magnificent music of the master of Baroque dramatic music.
