DESCRIPTION:Midcoast Symphony Orchestra “Invigorating Water Music”\nLocation: Franco Center, 46 Cedar St, Lewiston, ME 04340\nDate: January 18 at 7:00 p.m., or 6:00 pm for our free “More with Midcoast” Meet the Instruments event.\nThe Midcoast Symphony Orchestra (MSO), conducted by Rohan Smith, performs “Invigorating Water Music”, the second concert in this season’s theme of “Elemental Music to Stir the Soul.” This family friendly concert is designed to illustrate the way music and water are connected and includes the following works.\n\nHandel – WATER MUSIC SUITE NO. 2, movement 1\nEllington – THE RIVER, “The Spring” (D major)\nIves, THE HOUSATONIC AT STOCKBRIDGE (D-flat major)\nTchaikovsky – SWAN LAKE (Ballet Suite), Op. 20: I. Scene (Swan Theme) Conducted by special guest conductor Kyle Almquist.\nMendelssohn – CONCERT OVERTURE, THE HEBRIDES\nTomasi – TROMBONE CONCERTO, first movement, featuring trombone soloist Joshua Zhang, winner of this year’s Judith Elser Concerto Competition\nHandel – WATER MUSIC, “Hornpipe”\nHovhaness – AND GOD CREATED GREAT WHALES\nEllington – THE RIVER, “The Meander”\nSmetana – THE MOLDAU\n\nAs a part of MSO’s “More with Midcoast” community outreach series audience members are invited to arrive one hour early at 6:00pm to “Meet the Instruments” where you can learn about and try the instruments of the orchestra.\nInformation about all of the compositions and artists that are part of the 2024/25 MSO season is available on our website at www.midcoastsymphony.org ( http://www.midcoastsymphony.org/ ).\nIndividual tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. This season MSO concerts are free for audience member 25 and under. Short-Season tickets for the three remaining concerts of the season are available for $60. In addition to the savings, the short-season ticket includes a voucher for one “Bring-a-Friend” ticket, an incredible 40% savings over the individual ticket prices.\nMSO tickets, including free student tickets, are paperless. Audience members, including those 25 and under requesting FREE tickets, are encouraged to purchase tickets up to 24 hours in advance of each concert, either online or via the Box Office.
