Lewiston/Auburn Rattle

L/A Arts and partners are proud to announce that the Lewiston/Auburn Rattle sculpture has been erected at 163 Lisbon Street in downtown Lewiston.  On Friday August 28th there was a public ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the installation of the piece. L/A Arts would like to thank all its partners, the sponsors and community for supporting this endeavor.

Lewiston/Auburn Rattle is a public art project that seeks to help transform the downtowns of the Twin Cities of Maine. Each individual element of the colorful 20+ foot piece is inspired by the rich heritage and art history in Lewiston/Auburn including: French (Fleur de lis), Somali, and references to world renowned local artist Marsden Hartley. Although meant to be a staple of L/A for a number of years, the piece is built to be temporary and movable.

L/A Arts and partners are proud to have worked on this project with sculptor, painter, and printmaker Charlie Hewitt, an artist with decades of experience, an impressive record of art showings, and personal roots in Lewiston/Auburn. His Urban Rattle on New York City’s West Side is the model for Lewiston/Auburn Rattle. For more information go to: www.charliehewitt.com
